Welcome to Hissinghurst Maine Coons

We met our first Maine Coon cat in a little boutique in Jacksonville, Fla. in the early 1980's. He was sitting on the counter looking absolutely stunning.

At that time we had a small animal farm in Roswell, Georgia. There on the farm was an assortment of chickens, cows, ducks and rabbits. We ran a small stable for pony club kids and their horses. The horse that I grew up with (purchased for me in 1959) resided there also and my sons were able to ride and enjoy him until he died at the age of 27 in 1978. He was buried on the property behind the barn. His name was Hoot Mon. He was a "running" Quarter Horse, born on the King Ranch in Lexington, Kentucky in 1949. He was a hunter and ran with Shakerag Hounds in Atlanta and Mecklinberg Hounds in Charlotte and was the honored guest at a retirement ceremony in 1968. He was a great, courageous animal. So, when I saw my first Maine Coon cat, I was in awe of his magnificent beauty and knew I would have a Maine Coon cat one day.

In 1990 we went to our first CFA cat show and began our search for a Maine Coon cat. We met and talked to many breeders and saw beautiful cats. We got our first Maine Coon in 1991. His name is Pouncival Joseph Campbell or Joey. He is a wonderful pet, the great kitty love of my life. Because of his sweet and loving disposition and great beauty we are hooked on Maine Coons.

We continued to attend cat shows and were able to purchase a show cat, Purrmayne Sir Isaac Newton, aka Isaac. Isaac was called for finals as a kitten but
he did not like the show hall and unfortunately we were not able to show him in championship. But we really enjoyed going to cat shows, meeting people, seeing other beautiful cats and acquiring knowledge about cats in general and especially Maine Coons. The competitive spirit of the cat fancy was interesting to us, also. So in 1993 we got our first breeding girl, Purrmayne's Vita of Hissinghurst, Isaac's, sister. She had our first Hissinghurst kitten in 1994. Yes, she had a litter of one!!!!

Our farm in Roswell is now a subdivision on a multi-laned highway. We are located in the Greensboro Triad area with the cats and one collie. We continue to learn about Maine Coons.
